Qatar’s Cabinet has approved a draft law amending Law No. 4 of 2008 on real estate leases, marking a significant step toward modernizing the property regulatory framework.

The proposed amendments aim to address several practical issues in the real estate sector, including:

  • Tackling unauthorized subdivision of property units
  • Encouraging formal registration of lease agreements
  • Reducing administrative fees associated with lease registration

The draft law has now been referred to the Shura Council for legislative review, where it will undergo further scrutiny before potential enactment.

Legal Insight:
If enacted, these amendments are expected to improve transparency in the rental market, strengthen tenant-landlord relations, and enhance regulatory enforcement mechanisms.
